METIS

MEthodologies and Tools Innovation for Seismic Risk Assessment

Nuclear power plants (NPPs) need to be able to withstand the effects of an earthquake. The  METIS project therefore aims to develop rigorous and efficient methodologies and tools to determine the seismic safety of NPPs and supports simulation results with experimental data and experience feedback within the framework of Bayesian approaches and machine learning.

The project objectives aim generally to improve the predictability of best estimate and beyond-design seismic analysis. Together with the propagation of epistemic and aleatory uncertainties, this makes analyses more reliable and increases confidence in safety assessment results within the context of the EU-wide nuclear safety objectives.
