NPHYCO

Nuclear Powered Hydrogen Cogeneration

The project investigates the feasibility and viability for existing Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) to generate large amounts of hydrogen for supporting the decarbonisation goals of the EU. The investigations focus on existing H2 generation technologies and identify NPPs to be able to implement the viable solution at a short term. The project proposes an optimal degree of integration, to maximise mutual benefits, based on integrity of both, the nuclear and the hydrogen production plants. The project outcomes cover practical decision matrixes, guidelines, and checklists to be made available to NPP operators, H2 generation EPCs (engineering, procurement & construction) stakeholders, as well as investors, safety authorities, notified bodies and H2 consumers for their decision-making processes .
